THE GEORGIA COLLEGE AMERICAN DEMOCRACY PROJECT enables students in and outside the classroom to engage in civic life. One initiative included creating a Public Achievement course -- a youth civic engagement initiative focused on the most basic concepts of citizenship, democracy and public work
drawing on the talents and desires of ordinary people to build a better world.
Through Public Achievement, college students mentor younger students on community issues. One group focused on the lack of healthy afterschool snacks and worked with school officials to schedule a taste test of an all-natural juice “slushy” snack. The school system is considering the product for future use.
